When is the facility open?

The facility is open 5am – 10pm, Monday through Thursday, 5am – 9pm on Fridays, 7am – 7pm on Saturday, and 7am – 8pm on Sunday.

What types of membership plans do you offer?

A few membership plans are available to suit a variety of needs: Standard Membership plans (Fitness, UNC Employee, or Corporate) are month-to-month memberships and do not require a long-term commitment. Memberships may be canceled at any time with 30 days’ notice. Please click here to learn more about our plans.

How do I enroll?

When will our first billing be processed?

All billing cycles will occur on the 1st of each month and will cover the current calendar month of membership dues. If the 1st of the month falls on a weekend, the billing process will be completed on the following business day.

What is the 30 Day Guarantee?

The 30 Day Guarantee provides new Fitness, Corporate, and UNC Employee members with the opportunity to fully explore the membership option they have chosen, while still maintaining an option to terminate the membership within the first 30 days of their membership. Assuming appropriate notice and timing of cancellation during the 30 Day Guarantee period, the member will receive a full refund of the enrollment fees, if applicable, and will only be responsible for the dues of the first month. Additionally, all memberships are month-to-month with no long-term contracts. If the member decides at any time after the first month, for any reason, that it would be best to end the UNC Wellness Center membership, the member can do so by providing appropriate notice within 30 days.

Can I freeze my membership?

To help UNC Wellness Center members with special medical circumstances or with personal reasons for not utilizing the facility for longer periods of time, UNC Wellness Centers will allow members to freeze memberships within certain guidelines. Notice and confirmation of any freeze must be secured before the freeze period begins. The Membership Office can advise members and provide the appropriate documentation.

Freezes are available in increments of one month and allow members to freeze their membership up to 6 months in a calendar year. There is no fee to freeze a membership. The member’s monthly membership dues will not be charged during the billing cycle in which the freeze occurs.

How do I check-in?

All members will receive a membership ID card prior to the start of their membership. Your membership card is your passport to the UNC Wellness Centers’ activities and services. Presenting your card at the Front Desk for check-in during each visit is mandatory. By ensuring that everyone presents a membership ID, we are better equipped to protect your safety and security.

Can I charge items to my account?

If your monthly membership dues are billed by a credit card, debit card or bank draft, you have the ability to charge items to your account. This program allows you to charge just about anything in the UNC Wellness Center to your ‘account,’ which is billed monthly. On-account charges accumulate between billing periods and are charged during the next billing cycle along with membership dues.

Where can I find towels?

Complimentary towels are provided at the front desk and fitness desk. You’ll find both large towels (for swimming, showers) and small towels (for workouts) at the front desk. You can also find small towels at the fitness floor desk. There is a bin for used towels on the counter in the fitness area and another bin at the front desk counter, convenient to use on your way out of the facility. Please help keep our facility clean by dropping off your towels in one of the designated bins.

How do the lockers work?

Lockers in the locker rooms are “day lockers” for temporary use – members utilize them when using the facility. Just bring your own lock to secure your items and take it with you when you leave. The use of locks to secure your items is always encouraged.

Do you offer an orientation or any assessments to new members?

To help get you started on the right foot, all members joining under one of the Standard Membership plans will be provided with a complimentary Health Evaluation, Nutrition Evaluation, and Fitness Equipment Orientation. These benefits are often most useful when completed during the first month of your membership, but each member can determine when these assessments and orientation will be most productive as there is no expiration date on these benefits.

Can I use the other UNC Wellness Center location?

Membership offers full unlimited access to both the Meadowmont and Northwest Cary locations.

Can I bring a guest?

As a complimentary benefit to members with a Standard Membership plan, UNC Wellness Centers will give 4 “electronic” passes to each adult member every year on March 1st. New members will also receive 4 complimentary electronic passes at the time of enrollment. All Dividend Guest Passes expire every year on March 1st as these passes do not accumulate from year to year. These passes can be redeemed by bringing your guest to the front desk. Additionally, guest passes can be purchased at the front desk at any time. In order to use the facility, guests must complete all requested documentation, present photo identification and adhere to all UNC Wellness Center policies.

What is the length of the pool and what is the temperature of the water?

The pool is 25 yards long and is maintained at 83 degrees. The whirlpool is kept at approximately 103 degrees while the sauna’s temperature is kept at approximately 185 degrees.

Is the aquatics area open the same hours as the facility?

The aquatics area closes 15 minutes prior to the facility closing to allow users to shower, change, and exit the building before the facility closes.

Do you close the pool during thunder/electrical storms?

When we hear thunder, the pool closes for 15 minutes after thunder or 30 minutes after the last sighted lightning strike. Why close an indoor pool? There are many excellent conductors of electricity at an indoor pool with water and metal being the most obvious. The amount of windows in the aquatics area also increases the safety risk associated with a lightning strike. The health and safety of our members is our primary concern. We would much rather err on the side of caution than put our members and employees at risk.

How will you use the turf field?

The Wellness Center allows the use of the fenced in turf field during daylight hours for exercise and play. You are welcome to bring your own exercise or sports equipment, but please be respectful and careful of others when using the turf field. Please note, children under 13 have to be directly supervised at all times. Please check in at the front desk prior to using the field and note that there will be limited space during outdoor group exercise classes.

Who can use the climbing wall?

We will have many classes offering “Learn to Climb”, “Learn to Belay” and “Learn to Boulder” to get our climbers off to a great start. Kids can climb as young as 4 years old, and we will be offering programs for children through adults. Safety will be our main focus with climbing, so any roped climbing will be supervised. There is no additional cost to use the wall.

What can my child do in the Wellness Center?

Your child must be enrolled as a member starting at the age of 8. He/she can participate in any of the age appropriate programs that we have on the class schedule. In all areas of UNC Wellness Centers, children under the age of 13 should have direct parental supervision at all times. ‘Direct parental supervision’ means that a parent or other authorized guardian should maintain constant visual contact and the ability to verbally communicate with the child in a normal ‘inside’ speak­ing voice. There should be no ‘drop off’ of any children under 13 without an accompanying adult. Children in strollers can be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the track and may be pushed on the track in the two designated walking lanes. Members may not use any strength training equipment or cardiovascular equipment, including equip­ment on the track, while supervising a child in a stroller.

  • Members Age 8-12 may exercise in the following areas of the facility with direct parental supervision: Fitness pool, Multi-Purpose room, All stretching areas, Track, All cardiovascular training equipment and areas
  • Members Age 8-12 may not use the following areas and equipment: All strength training equipment*, Whirlpool, Sauna, Group fitness classes, except specific youth programs *Except with direct supervision by a UNC Wellness Center personal trainer
  • Children age 7 and under may exercise in the following areas of the facility with direct parental supervision: Fitness pool, Multi-Purpose room, Upstairs stretching area, Track
  • Children age 7 and under do not have access to the following areas: Main fitness area, Clinical fitness area, Whirlpool, Sauna, Group fitness classes, except specific youth programs

Does the Wellness Center provide child care?

Yes, the Stay-n-Play area provides members and guests with safe care for children (ages 3 months through 12 years) while their parents are in the facility. There is no additional cost for using the Stay-n-Play. All Stay-n-Play staff are infant and child CPR certified. The Stay-n-Play staff is trained to interact with the children at all times and will use games, books, music, and toys to get children involved in fun activities. Since space and staff are limited, reservations are strongly advised. Reservations can be made by calling or visiting the front desk. The primary goals of the Stay-n-Play are safety, security, and smiles. An extended service of our Stay-n-Play is Supervised Play.

Can I bring my child of the opposite gender into my locker room?

Children over the age of three must use gender appropriate locker rooms.  As an alternative, parents may choose to use one of the two family changing rooms in the Aquatics area.

Can I use my cell phone in the exercise areas? 

Out of courtesy to other members, please make or receive phone calls in the hallways or lobby areas.  Additionally, a courtesy phone is located in the sitting area adjacent to the climbing wall.

Do I pay extra for anything at the UNC Wellness Center? 

We do our best to provide the best programming available with little or no cost to our members, but sometimes we cannot avoid additional costs. Some notable examples are Massage, Nutritional Counseling, Personal Trainers, and Swim Lessons. Some special programs and most products (Fleet Feet Sports shop) also require additional costs, but we try to avoid or minimize this whenever possible.

What can and can’t I wear?

Members and guests should wear clean, appropriate workout attire and accessories when utilizing all exercise areas in the facility. Attire and accessories that compromise safety, damage equipment, are inappropriate for the activity, or make others uncomfortable may be prohibited. Members and guests should not wear apparel or accessories bearing offensive slogans, icons or pictures, apparel or accessories likely to offend or distract others, bra-tops worn as tops or tops not covering the midriff, or shorts, tights or pants that do not completely cover undergarments.
