Group Fitness Classes

The goal of the Group Fitness program is to help our members enjoy the benefits of cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength training through safe and effective programs for all levels of fitness. We offer an extensive selection of group fitness classes each week, including classes for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced exerciser. All classes are included as part of your membership and we will provide any equipment for a class if needed.

From heart-pumping classes to serene, calming classes like Yoga and T’ai Chi, our group fitness classes provide another way to change your life and develop a positive health and fitness habit. Our outstanding staff of instructors are certified and continually updating their expertise.

If you are new to our group fitness program, please read and follow our guidelines below for making the classes a safe, enjoyable experience for you and other members.
  • All classes are on a first-come, first-served basis. Select classes require reservations.
  • Always wait for the preceding class to end before entering the room.
  • Be considerate of other members and the instructor and refrain from conversation during class.
  • Children under the age of 13 are not permitted in group fitness classes unless otherwise noted.
  • Feel free to work at your own pace and skill level. However, it is discourteous and distracting to do your own routine during a class.
  • If you are running more than 5 minutes late, please wait to take the next class to avoid disrupting the instructor and other class participants.
  • Keep all water in bottles.
  • Perfume and cologne can be harmful to members who suffer from respiratory issues. Please avoid wearing these scents while exercising.
  • Proper athletic shoes are required.
  • Respect other members’ exercise space.
  • Set your cell phones and pagers to vibrate. iPods and other listening devices are not allowed in class.
  • Stages exercise bikes are for use during supervised fitness classes only.

UNC Wellness Centers is offering limited group fitness classes with restrictions following state and local guidelines. Please read through the following information to learn how to register for in-person group fitness classes and live virtual streaming classes.

Our Group Fitness class schedule will be posted on our website on our online calendars (Meadowmont and NW Cary). In order to participate, registration is required. You can complete registration through your member account. If you have any issues creating your account, please contact us and we can have temporary login credentials emailed to you.

  • You can visit our online calendar, and view the class description including level and equipment needed.
  • Registration will be available 72 hours prior to the start of class by logging into your membership account under Group Exercise.
  • We will send you an email to confirm class registration.
  • You may cancel your registration up to 12 hours prior to the start of class.
  • If you have comments or specific requests at the completion of class, you can contact Paula Keck, Group Exercise & Fitness Programs Manager.

How to register for in-person group fitness class using desktop computer

  1. Visit our website
  2. Click Member Login to access Member Account.
  3. Select Group Exercise
  4. The class schedule will appear. Select between Northwest Cary and Meadowmont depending on which site is holding the class you would like to register for by clicking “Change”.
  5. Use additional search tools to find the specific class you would like to enroll in.
  6. Click “Enroll” to register for selected class.
  7. Select the Member to register in the class by checking their name and Click “Register”.
  8. After selecting Register, you are successfully registered for that group fitness class and will receive a confirmation email.

How to register for in-person group fitness class using smartphone or tablet 

  1. Download the UNC Wellness Center App (if you don’t yet have it installed)
  2. Open the app and log into your account.
  3. Visit Home Screen.
  4. On the bottom bar, click “Classes”.
  5. Select class to register.
  6. Click “Book”.
  7. Click “Accept”.
  8. Select Member to register.
  9. Click “Next”.
  10. Click “OK” or Add to Calendar.

How to cancel in-person group fitness class registration using smartphone or tablet

  1. Download the UNC Wellness Center App (if you don’t yet have it installed).
  2. Open the app and log into your account.
  3. Select classes.
  4. Select the date of the class you would like to cancel.
  5. Click “Cancel”.
  6. Confirm cancelation.
  7. You will receive a pop-up confirmation.

UNC Wellness Centers offers Live Streaming Virtual Group Fitness classes. Please read through the following information to learn how to register for a Live Streaming Virtual group fitness class.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR A LIVE STREAMING VIRTUAL CLASS

Our Live Streaming Virtual Class Schedule will be posted on our website on our online calendars (Meadowmont and NW Cary). Category: Virtual

  • You must register to participate in live streaming virtual classes.
  • You can visit our online calendar, select the class which will then display the class description including level and equipment needed.
  • Click on the Registration link in the description.
  • Once registered, a Zoom link will be automatically sent via email.
  • Click the “Click Here to Join” link.
  • The Zoom waiting room will open 15 minutes prior to each class, allowing for socialization between members and staff. At the end of class, members may leave on their own or stay for socialization for 5 minutes.
