Based on the guidelines that Governor Cooper outlined for Phase 2, fitness centers in NC are not permitted to open until further notice. However, Phase 2 guidelines do allow groups of 25 or less to meet outside. As a result, the UNC Wellness Centers is happy to offer limited outdoor group fitness classes beginning June 15th with restrictions in accordance with state and local guidelines. Please read through the following for more detailed information.

OUTDOOR GROUP FITNESS CLASS INFORMATION

  • Class size will be limited to 23 members only, 13 years and older.
  • Class registration is required.
  • Registration will open on June 14th and will open 48 hours in advance in each class.
  • There will be no fee for class participation.
  • Participants will not have access to the Wellness Centers. Bathrooms and water fountains will not be available for use.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early. Classes will begin ON TIME. Participants that miss the Wellness Check window will not be permitted to enter the class.
  • Class check-in and Wellness Checks will take place outside.
  • Know Your Ws: Wear, Wait, Wash. All members coming to outdoor group fitness classes must wear a cloth face covering prior to and after class, maintain appropriate physical distancing with other members and staff members, and practice hand hygiene with provided hand sanitizer upon arrival and departure of the group fitness class.
  • Other than water and a towel, leave all other personal belongings in your car.
  • Participants will be set up 10 feet apart to ensure appropriate physical distancing.
  • Classes will be designed using minimal equipment and body weight movements.
  • Cleaning stations will be available with hand sanitizer, spray bottles, and disposable wipes, if equipment is used.
  • During inclement weather, in-person class will be moved to live streaming virtual Zoom class, except for cycling on the Turf. Inclement weather notifications will be made within one hour of the start of class on our website on our Group Fitness calendar.
  • STOP! Do NOT come to outdoor group fitness classes if you have the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
  • Maintain physical distancing at all times.
  • Entrances to the turf field will be open to avoid touching handles.
  • Exit the outdoor class area at the end of class, no congregating to ensure physical distancing.
  • Any equipment used will be disinfected by staff before and after class.
  • Boot Camp classes will be offered outside at both Wellness Center locations. No circuit classes or sharing of equipment will be permitted.
  • Cycling classes will be offered on the Turf Field at Northwest Cary.
