COVID-19 Update 5.21.21

As part of UNC Health and the Medical Fitness Association, our mission and values have always centered on providing a clean, safe and supportive environment to our staff, patients, members and guests.

At this time, a decision has been made by UNC Hospital leadership and UNC Hospital’s Infection Prevention team to follow the governor’s executive order and allow fully vaccinated wellness members to access the UNC Wellness Centers without a mask beginning Saturday, May 22nd. We are reminding all unvaccinated individuals to continue to wear a mask while visiting the UNC Wellness Centers. In addition, we highly encourage everyone to continue to wear a mask and practice social distancing as well as frequent handwashing. We will also discontinue the wellness checks upon entering the facilities. As a reminder, all participants in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program as well as Physical Therapy Services are required to wear a mask while participating in the programs mentioned.

While we are excited about this update, our primary focus and commitment at the UNC Wellness Centers have been and will be to ensure the safety of our community, members and staff. The steps we have taken to maintain a safe environment will continue at all of our centers:
• Robust cleanings
• Reservation times for areas such as lap lanes, climbing wall, and other services
• Mask requirements and wellness check screenings for all staff
• Exercise equipment spaced 6’ apart
• Group exercise class participants spaced 6’ apart
• Virtual class offerings

We are taking every measure to protect against the transmission of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Please click the links on the left-hand side of this page for updates and how we plan to help keep the centers a safe environment for our members and staff.
