REOPENING FOR OUTDOOR and VIRTUAL GROUP FITNESS AT UNC WELLNESS CENTERS

Based on the guidelines that Governor Cooper outlined for Phase 2, fitness centers in NC are not permitted to open until further notice. However, Phase 2 guidelines do allow groups of 25 or less to meet outside. As a result, the UNC Wellness Centers is happy to offer limited outdoor group fitness classes beginning June 15th with restrictions in accordance with state and local guidelines. OUTDOOR GROUP FITNESS CLASS INFORMATION 
  • Class size will be limited to 23 members only, 13 years and older.
  • Class registration is required. 
  • Registration will open on June 14th and will open 24 hours in advance of each class.
  • There will be no fee for class participation.
  • Participants will not have access to the Wellness Centers. Bathrooms and water fountains will not be available for use.
  • Class check-in and Wellness Checks will take place outside.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early. Classes will begin ON TIME. Participants that miss the Wellness Check window will not be permitted to enter the class.
  • If you are unable to attend a class you have registered for, out of common courtesy we ask you to cancel within two hours. A last minute cancellation or no show means a missed opportunity for other members who may have wanted to attend.  
  • Know Your W’s: Wear, Wait and Wash. We recommend all members coming to outdoor group fitness classes to wear a cloth face covering, maintain appropriate physical distancing with other members and staff members, and practice hand hygiene with provided hand sanitizer upon arrival and departure of the outdoor group fitness classes.
  • Other than water and a towel, leave all other personal belongings in your car. 
  • Participants will be set up 10 feet apart to ensure appropriate physical distancing.
  • Classes will be designed using minimal equipment and body weight movements.
  • Cleaning stations will be available with hand sanitizer, spray bottles, and disposable wipes, if equipment used.
  • During inclement weather, in-person classes will be moved to live streaming virtual Zoom class, except for cycling on the Turf. Inclement weather notifications will be made within one hour of the start of class on our website on our Group Fitness calendar. 
  • STOP! Do NOT come to the outdoor group fitness classes if you have the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or shaking chills.
  • Members will be asked symptoms screening questions upon arrival. Please click here for more information on Wellness Checks. Please arrive 15 minutes early to accommodate screening. 
  • Any equipment used will be disinfected by staff before and after class.
  • Exit the outdoor class area at the end of class, no congregating to ensure physical distancing.
 
In addition to outdoor group fitness classes, we will begin offering limited live streaming virtual group fitness classes through Zoom, a virtual meeting site. Our live streaming classes will allow you to workout with your favorite instructors and interact with other Wellness Centers members. Click here for information on how to use Zoom. 
 
HOW TO REGISTER FOR AN IN-PERSON GROUP FITNESS CLASS
Our Outdoor Group Fitness Class Schedule will be posted on www.uncwellness.com on our online calendars. In order to participate, registration is required. Registration can be done through your member account. If you have any issues creating your account, please contact us and we can have temporary login credentials emailed to you.
  • Members may visit our online calendar, select the class to display the class description including level and equipment needed.
  • Registration will be available by logging into your membership account under Group Exercise. 
  • Registration will open on June 14th and will open 24 hours in advance of each class.
  • An automatic email will be sent to member once registration is confirmed. 
  • Members must cancel up to 2 hours prior to the start of class.
  • Members are encouraged to contact Paula Keck, Fitness Programs Manager, to share comments or for specific requests at the completion of the class. 
 
HOW TO REGISTER FOR A LIVE STREAMING VIRTUAL CLASS
  • Our Live Streaming Virtual Class Schedule will be posted on www.uncwellness.com on our online calendars.
  • Members may visit our online calendar, select the class to display the class description including level and equipment needed.
  • Click on the Registration link in the description. 
  • Registration is required to participate in live streaming virtual classes.
  • Once registered, a Zoom link will be automatically sent via email. 
  • Registered member will click link, “Click Here to Join” class.
  • The Zoom waiting room will open 15 minutes prior to each class, allowing for socialization between members and staff. At the conclusion of class, members may leave on their own or stay for socialization for 5 minutes. 
  • Members are encouraged to contact Paula Keck, Fitness Programs Manager, to share comments or for specific requests at the completion of the class.
