Most people think that rowing is only a back exercise, or is something done by college and Olympic crew teams. It is actually a great full-body workout that can be done by almost anyone.

Josh Ozeri, founder of Brooklyn Crew in Williamsburg, NY says that “the benefits are unbelievable,” and “you’re engaging your core, your abdominals and lower back.” One of the myths of rowing is that it is merely an upper body exericse. In truth it is a total body workout that can burn upwards of 850 calories over a 45 minute time period.

Rowing can be a tremendous alternative to the treadmill or elliptical for people who have a history of lower body injury. Workouts can be customized for a specific distance or time, and the rower can easily control how much effort they put into the movement. Every exerciser should consider this as an alternative to their regular routine.
