UNC Wellness Center Wins 1st Place
Monday June 3, 2013
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 9th Annual Medical Fitness Association’s Steppin’ Out Worldwide Walking Challenge, which was held April 22-28. This year, The UNC Wellness Center won FIRST PLACE in the international competition, and between the hospital staff and the UNC Wellness Center members and staff, had 592 people walk 49,017,154 steps! During this event, medical fitness facilities and surrounding communities were asked to “get people moving, develop healthy lifestyle habits, and aim to walk 10,000 steps a day.” Fitness Director Logan Washburn headed up the Steppin’ Out Walking Program, and with the help of other Wellness Center staff, lead group walks throughout the week. Logan will attend the MFA Conference in San Diego this November and will receive recognition and a plaque during the event. In addition, the UNC Wellness Center was asked to display a poster presentation about the Challenge during the entire conference. Additionally, Individual and Team Awards were given to the members with the most steps during the challenge. The top 3 individual walkers were Art Belden, Janet Gradient, and Tia Blake, while the top team was “Team Triangle.” Congrats again- hope to see you walking next year!
